Fu Hao was a royal consort, military commander and ritual authority of the Shang dynasty. Known through oracle-bone inscriptions and her intact tomb at Yinxu, she is one of the earliest women in Chinese history securely connected with military command.
Ban Zhao was one of the most influential scholars of early imperial China. She helped complete the Book of Han, educated members of the imperial court, and argued that girls deserved education as well as boys.
